“A twist of fate makes life worthwhile - you are gold and silv-er-er-er!”
HI MOM!
THIS SONG THAT I reference to is one from what I’m going to call the best chick flick since 50 First Dates. Yes I am talking about that charming and rib-splittingly funny movie, Music & Lyrics.
1) I usually dislike Drew Barrymore (even though she was awesome in 50 First Dates)
2) I usually HATE Hugh Grant. He blinks too girly-like.
3) The amazingness of this movie trumps both 1&2.
Still not convinced?
CLICK HERE FOR REASON #1 WHY I LOVE THIS MOVIE
CLICK HERE FOR REASON #2 WHY I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Ahh… yes it’s the kind of movie that kind of make you wish you were in love.
Sigh.
Anyways…
1) Who would I be if I didn’t show the most recent art I’ve been working on?
Now I”m working on a sculpture using the subtractive method (starting from a block and carving out the image). It’s a lot more difficult that i thought. I’m using plaster, and here is what I have so far:
I’m not going to say what it’s supposed to be quite yet - I don’t belive in spoon-feeding people my ideas. Just look at it and next time I’ll tell you what I’m doing. If you want to say something about it, it’s always useful for an art person (I’m not calling myself an artist just yet) to hear it.
2) I do believe my roommate went crazy. First she started giving away a lot of her clothes, then she decided to cut the hoods off a couple of her sweaters. So Laura, Justine and i made rapper hats. Check ‘em out!
Yeah… oh dear.
3) I’m baking cinnamon rolls for my plia team, and they smell amazing. You should be jealous and wishing you were in my PLIA team.
4) My hand got butchered today. First of all I literally shredded the skin on my thumb, I have two very bad blisters on my palm, three burns, and a few heavy gashes in my knuckles. The price of being an art major is high.
5) Welp… not much has been going on - I’m enjoying life. I leave for Denver tomorrow for PLIA (PLIA stands for “putting love into action”. they are student-led mission groups.) I’m hoping it will be a beneficial time.
PLEASE PRAY:
1) for travelling mercies for all the dordt students going home/on vacation for spring break.
2) for all the sites that PLIA will be working with and that we make an impact… hopefully a positive one
Rachel and Josh I hope you are enjoying home
Mom I love you and I gave sarah the number you can contact me by
Sarah can you give mom that number I gave you?
Love, deedee
5 comments“Tonight we can truly say, ‘Together we’re invincible’…”
I figured that it’s about time that I quoted MUSE… it’s only my favorite band.
Invincible is one of their softest songs… I doubt most of my audience would appreciate hardcore MUSE. But if you don’t mind a bit of heavier metal… check them out-> they are nothing short of AMAZING.
Anyways, mom wants an update. (BTW - I’ll call you tomorrow, mom (sunday))…
Wow I haven’t updated in a long time. Well here’s the skinny:
* Two Fridays ago, Laura and I went out to eat in LeMars. It was yum.
* Then the next day I had woke up really early and served at a soup kitchen. I love how friendly people are there and I enjoyed it. I wish I had the opportunity to go more often.
* Then Amanda, Jason and I hung out the rest of the evening - going shopping, watching movies, and went to a Dordt dance. All of which were tons fun.
Then was a week of lots of homework.
I MADE MY FIRST ANIMATION EVER!!! I’m somewhat proud of it, SO YOU MUST CLICK HERE AND WATCH IT!
*Disclaimer: the language is taken directly from Edgar Allen Poe’s Tell Tale Heart… I didn’t write this, he did.
Valentine’s day was fun.
First Amanda and Jason decided to fill my room up with balloons. Crazy kids.
Me, Laura and Rachel had an Anti-Valentine’s Day party.
And we made balloon boyfriends: (it’s tradition now… we did it last year too)
Unfortunately, I had to pop most of the balloons that Amanda and Jason gave me… I
think my roommates were getting annoyed of them.
Then we played sappy music, did the Macerena and the Electric Slide, and ate mass quantities of brownie and cookie dough ice cream.
Or in otherwords, we made being single look like a whole lot of fun.
Valentine’s night, I caught a really nasty cold - one so bad that I skipped classes all thursday and friday. I pretty much slept, ate, watched fresh prince and that 70’s show re-runs, woke laura up in the middle of the night with my odd hacking and coughing, and
felt miserable the whole weekend.
The only time I seemed to get out of the room was for the two hockey games - and that’s only because these were the last two home games.
However, I am still alive… and have made it through yet another tough week of schooling. Honestly, not too many exciting things happen during the weekend.
Tuesday I got my hair cut and died. Now I look a lot like Rachel. Next person to mix us up gets punched (urg…)
Wednesday was Rachel’s Birthday, and I cooked dinner for her. It was yummy. Rachel was spoiled on her birthday, which is good.
Friday was also fun. Hung out with Amanda for a while, then Mallory, Chad, Eric and I went to HuHot - a mongolian restaraunt. Given the Mongolian Grill in Tacoma tastes better and is cheaper, HuHot is a lot like it… just less authentic and more commercialized.
Maybe mom and dad would like to go(?) when you come out to visit for Rachel’s graduation?
Anyways… Saturday I woke up and immediately headed for the Art department.
I don’t know how many of you tried walking outside today, but it was pretty much just sliding on a sheet of ice. I’m shocked that I didn’t fall - but it was trecherous.
This painting:
turned into this:
I think this piece might be finished. We’ll see what VanGeest says.
Also, I started my large-scale painting.
It’s huge… but I have plans. The whole first layer was painted with my feet. No particular reason, it just looked like fun… and believe me, it was)
And then I went to the last basketball game of the season - ironically against our rival school, Northwestern. We lost, it was sad, and I was shocked by Northwestern’s immaturity. I bet Dordt students would’ve been just as immature had we won, but honestly - doesn’t the word “Christian” mean anything to anyone anymore?
Then I did more art, and headed over to Amanda’s room and watched potentially the most rediculous movie ever… “Snakes on a Plane”
It really needs to be advertised as a comedy - I’m pretty sure I was laughing the whole time I watched it. It’s just… rediculous. Absolutely absurd.
And now I’m here… and I’m tired. I hope this satisfied you for a while, mom.
Have a great week, y’all!

Song of the Week: “suddenly I see” by KT Tunstall. I usually hate pop, but it’s impossible to not be happy while listening to this song. That is my kind of music.
(By the way, by listening to the song I link to, you usually can tell what mood I was in while writing the post
)
Lots of good things to show, so be ready for it!
1) The art show went smashingly. We were all beautiful, and nothing went wrong. We have an AWESOME GROUP of juniors. Thank you so much to all the people who attended the show - it mean A LOT to all of us.
Here are some pictures that I stole from Mal:
This is the tower of cups that Mal was very proud of
Me, Andrew (Andrew and I will be PLIA leaders together this spring break) and Dave before the show.
It was a nice night.
2) Then afterwards, Jason, Amanda and I went out to go see a movie:
It’s called Catch and Release. STUPID MOVIE! Under no condition should you watch it. The commercials make it seem like a good movie, but unfortunately, it sucks.
3) The next day Amanda, Jason and I got together after the big Dordt/Northwestern game, and ordered pizza, watched “My big fat greek wedding”
and Amanda and I made the best chocolate cake in the entire existance of mankind. I mean - we did it from scratch - none of that boxed crap. We even made the frosting from scratch.
The Yumm yumm cake:
Jason even helped out a little:
They Match!
I would offer you some of this marvelous cake, but unfortunately a horde of hungry people (named my sister’s room, my room, amanda, Jason, and other various people throughout the day) have devoured it. It was that good.
3) Sunday, not much got done. But Laura and I ended up goofing around pretty much the whole day.
It started when we decided to switch computers and talk to people as though we were the other person. Interesting things happened.
Then… well… I don’t think these pictures need much explanation:
Sorry there are so many of them… I had trouble narrowing down the good ones. I believe we took about 40-50 pictures total. Great procrastination method, I tell you.
4) Shoes. I just realized I have a lot of them:
Not only that, but earrings as well:
Darn it, I’m becoming boring.
Ok one last thing:
5) Here is a sneak preview to my first ever sculpture. This is only a maquette (a small, not very detailed version of what i am planning to do) You’re lucky if you can distinguish any subject matter at all:
Welp, if you can’t tell, life is going pretty well so far. I’ll post again in the near future.
(Mom - sorry it was so loud when you called, me and Laura where groovin’ to some good ol’ rap. I think I may be half black - that’s the only thing that can explain my mad skillz.
)
Love y’all!

I’ve had this song stuck in my head for the past week… so listen to it. It’s by Coldplay, called “Swallowed in the Sea”, and was recently added to the list of songs that can make me cry inside… yup in the inside.
Only one song has successfully made me start bawling in real tears; “left and leaving” by the weakerthans… What the heck, I should permenantly have that song linked on my website. Here it is. Listen to it. Love it.
Anyways, my to-do list is monsterous. So, naturally I turn to the wonderful dianefeucht.com as my procrastination method. Hey, my parents have to know what’s going on in my life, right? Especially since I no longer posess the power to call them (cough… need…cough… phone cards…cough)
Ok… life.
I have been the biggest klutz today. Ask my roommates. It’s getting really really really bad. I’m not allowed to touch anything anymore, because chances are it will break, spill, fling, or flip.
And another point of interest - today is my half birthday! Meaning, only 6 more months until I am 21. Mom, your youngest kid is about to be 21 (if we don’t count your cat)- how do you feel about that?
And another thing - the junior art show opening is on Friday at 6:30pm in the campus center art gallery. BE THERE! SUPPORT YOUR JUNIOR ART MAJORS! Here’s picture of what some of it looks like (clicking makes it bigger):
I was talking to another art friend over break from a different college, and I’m very happy to go to a college that strives to have art as a big part of the campus. Heck, we are even forced to put our work on the walls, whereas other people have to fight to make their art public. Go Dordt!
I’ve been cooking for people a lot lately. Before you know it I will be a domestic god-DESS! I’ve never had so much food in my refrigerator before. I don’t know how that is at all interesting… oh well.
Oh dear… dare I mention the duck cake I made?
(Be prepared to laugh at me)
Here it is:
first person to say that it looks like it’s topped with cheese will experience the wrath of Diane.
I’m sure my sister sarah is having a good laugh… for some reason she can make this cake look better than I can. there is a hole on the other side, and I’m afraid that it tastes gross. I’ll find that out in an hour when I bring it to sculpture class… wrapped up in a box where no one can see it. ![]()
But I made it for a friend’s 1/2 birthday, so at least I’m trying to be a nice person.
Anyways… more interesting things. Hmmm. I’m out. Anything interesting happening in your guys’ life? Do share.
I’m a very busy person. And I should be busy right now, but I’m not. So I’m going to go be busy.
Have a good day, y’all!
Love, the Deeds
5 comments“You’ve got this, I’ve got that… we’ve got these things called lives.” (MindHead)
IN attempt to be supercool, and to steal one of David’s great ideas… and after being told that no one knows the songs that I reference in the title of my songs, I will have the newest post have the song LINKED so you can listen to it, and know how wonderful these bands are.
And today’s song is…. “Baby, let’s go for a ride” by Mindhead.
Anyways, I suppose I should update for my parents’ sake… even though I don’t feel like it.

I LOVE FRIDAYS!!!
Anyways… not much to say. I had to go on an RA retreat this weekend, then on Saturday Amanda, Jason, and I went to Sioux falls where we went shopping, changed into our new outfits, then went out to eat at the lobster shop…
where for the first time ever…
I ate Crab!
And… it’s ok. I think it will take some getting used to before I love it.
These people are cute together:
And I love Amanda:
Kind of creepy? Yes!
Ok I’m done.
Parents: I don’t have a phone card. Call me on M/W/F if you want. And try calling me when I’m awake next time
And yes, this website theme is staying. I decided I like it.
