“Lift those heavy eyelids”
Song of the Weeeeeeek is Arcade Fire / Rebellion (lies) – sorry it’s nothing new or exciting… just thought the theme was appropriate. And plus, I think most people just want that last song off. (haha!)
Howdy world!1) I love my family. I have the greatest sisters, brother, brother-in-law, nephews, cousins and parents. Ok, fine, and my mom’s cat isn’t the worst either. Just felt like I haven’t bragged enough about them recently.
And my mom is coming to visit me for a week in October! I’m excited!
… and I’m sad that my little nephews are growing up without me
2) I found out why I’ve been getting bruises – methinks my iron-deficiency anemia has returned. (dun dun dun!)
Which explains why I spent most of this Saturday completely exhausted and sleeping on the couch, feeling weak. It’s so funny how the lack of one little element in my body can dramatically alter my lifestyle.
However, this isn’t the worst I’ve had it, and I’ve managed to stay in a pretty good mood regardless!
3) I did spend time with Laura this weekend – her parents came and took us out to Blue Mountain. It was a good time.
Afterwards, Laura and I challenged Jeremiah, Joel and Branden to a hard-core game of “Battle of the Sexes”
(In this game, girls get asked questions that only guys usually know – like about sports, beer, fishing and handywork, and guys get asked girly questions about fashion, cooking, raising children and diets.)
OF COURSE Laura and I DOMINATED! even though we were short one person!
We even played in REVERSE where girls got asked girl questions and guys got asked guy questions, and we still SMOKED them boys!
4) As always, I’ve been working on art… here is the two most recent things that I am willing to show.
Staying with my theme of hearts, I made this is Ceramics:
and here is my “cast” drawing:
Still not sure if that one is finished. Oh well. I strongly dislike drawing, and I’m thinking it’s showing.
5) A few things I find very scary:
Eek.
I have to pass a math proficiency test before I can graduate so I’ve been studying for that a bit… and thanks to Laura, I think I have a good chance passing on my first try!
Well that’s all for now. Next weekend I will be in Chicago, staying with my friend Lindsey with Laura. It should be a good time!
have a great week, ya’ll!

Song of the week = Grace Kelly by Mika – because of my roommate Jen. She is an amazing hip-hop dancer and we went to see one of her concerts at Northwestern this weekend. Our whole room got to go free because Jen hooked us up with some sweet tickets. Yes, our room is very gangsta! I especially enjoy laura’s face – she is so hardcore. On Saturday I dragged Laura to Professor Van Wyk’s farm – he was having the art majors working on his barn. I didn’t have much time to help, so we went to check out the barn Van Wyk keeps talking about. Here is Laura and I on the farm:
Something kind of exciting happened while at the farm. Van Wyk gave Laura and I a tour of his studio. Amidst all his paintings and prints was this small 3×5 notecard painting:
I kind of recognized it… but then all the sudden it clicked – this was a small painting I had created last year for an art exchange project that professor Van Geest had us do! We pinned the final product on a wall and invited the public to take their own piece of art. Van Wyk chose this one and uses it for inspiration. Hah!
Not much else fun-wise has been happening.
However there is the mystery of the bruise! I keep waking up with bruises all over me. Here is the most recent one:
I dunno what’s going on. Hopefully I’m not dying. Or hopefully my roommates aren’t beating me in my sleep, that would be sad
Anyways…
Oh there is one more thing:
I’m not sure if I feel like explaining this picture right now. Let’s just say I was mad at Laura in this picture. Grr.
Well That’s all for now. Have a good week!

3 comments“Say all that you can, words have no meaning”
Yay for songs that I find randomnly! And this week’s song is “Symphony of Blase” by Anberlin.
So I pretty much slept the entire day. And then I woke up feeling mediocre.
But I had promised Laura I’d go to the corn maze. So I actually left the building. And despite how wonderful I didn’t feel, I had a really good time! Laura and I actually got 9 wonderful people to go in a group!
Here is all of us!
We split up in three groups, and of course mine was the slowest. Woops.
Saturday night, the boys of room 405 hosted a Toga Party. Laura and I have been planning on this for a week, and we had fun attempting to make a long piece of material look good.
We are awesome.
Here is me and one of the wonderful Toga Hosts:
And here is most of the group that attended!:
Afterwards, we went to comedy league and I forced Jerry and Branden to watch the movie “sisterhood of the travelling pants”. They claim to have thought it was a bad movie, but I would (obviously) disagree.
But they had fun making fun of it at the very least. Right, Jerry?
Besides that, Laura and I have been hanging around the apartment, doing homework and taking the occasional self-portrait.
Here is some art for your viewing pleasure:
A study after a Francis Bacon portrait:
and here is my landscape drawing… that I’m still not quite satisfied with yet. But I’m at a standstill and it’s due tomorrow… so it will have to do.
Anyways – I’m having a very good (and very busy!!!) last semester so far. Today I looked at my “graduation countdown” and I have only 94 days left until I am graduated. I kind of freaked out… and I only have about 120 days until I’m starting school in Germany. AHHH!
So pray for me that I survive!
Have a wonderful week everybody! I promised I’d post something entertaining, but I’m saving it once again for the next post…!
Love, Dee-Dee
2 comments“I’ve never known what’s good for me”
Song of the week = “This Modern Love” by Bloc Party. I believe I’ve already used this song… but I feel like posting it again so I’m going to.Anyways, I promised I’d post earlier than this. I lied. Get used to it – I do that a lot these days.”Stressed out” would be a good few words for this week… but then again, I’ve been having quite the social life. I guess I can’t complain to horribly.
On Friday, Laura and I went on a “date” to Sioux Falls. It was tons of fun.
If I appear to be gross and greasy… and pink, you’re right. I don’t shower for outings anymore. Haha.
And here’s Laura, who looks exponentially better than me:
and I found out where Laura does all her shopping…
On Saturday I walked with Laura to Walmart, then I went to a Bonfire with Laura. Sorry, no pictures.
Monday night, Jerry and I got to hang out! Yaaaaaaay. Who doesn’t love a little Jerry time in their life?
See, Jerry’s excited about it!
So was I!
I said I’d post pictures of my room… I lied about that as well.
I do have one picture – here is Jason sleeping on a sofa in Amanda and my bedroom. The red bed is mine – and you can see my little hiding spot where my bookshelf is near the head of my bed. I go there when I need to be alone.
Okey dokey.
Well I guess I’ll hold true to one promise: here is a few pieces of wonderful mediocre art I’ve been working on… and as Professor Van Wyk says, “the last thing this world needs is more mediocre art”. Darn it:
Ceramics:
Drawing II:
I miss Professor Van Geest very dearly.
I miss having a professor that knows and cares about how my passions, my struggles, my personality, and my life story are all crucial to understanding why I make my artwork like I do.
On the other hand – being a Gen300 TA, I get to see a little bit about what it’s like to be a professor – I have to attend class planning meetings every week. I can see myself as a Professor. I want to pass along the passion that was given to me. I want it badly.
OH YEAH! I’m proud to announce that the “Dordt Defenders for Life” website is up and kicking! CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT!!!
Well I have a few more fun things to post, but I’m gonna keep them for another day. Let’s just say that you may feel free to have a good giggle with my next post.
When I will post, I have no idea. I am a busy woman. I keep all my homework/events on a computer calendar. This is what it currently looks like. Red = School, Blue=Fun. It’s a little uneven unfortunately:

OH! Look at the last week! Laura and I are going to CHICAGO for tri-state AKA my birthplace! I have a weekend to convince Laura that she NEEDS TO go on the Chicago next semester, and that Chicago isn’t THAT scary of a city. So if you know Laura, tell her to go. And Laura, if you are reading this, GO ON CHICAGO SEMESTER, WOMAN!
Also, Thanks Dave and Trina for your concern
I love you guys very much and I think about you a lot. And I will do the thing you tagged me for when I have time. I feel bad when I don’t write to you guys as much as you do to me, but I love hearing from you, and I’m always thinking about what I should write back to you but never get around to doing it. Woops.
…That goes to everybody else out there that may think I’m ignoring them… no I’m not. I’m just a little scattered these days.
Ok I do believe it’s bedtime.
I’ll post within the week. And I’ll try not to lie about it this time.
Love, Deedles
2 comments“It may take some time to patch me up inside”
OK MOM! I’LL POST!:)
Song of the Week = “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)” by Vertical Horizons. I put iTunes on random today and it was playing… I randomnly was listening to the words and realized that they are exactly how I feel right now. Craaaaaaazy. Now I’m listening to it on repeat. No, I don’t care to elaborate.
Let’s just say I’m a little twisted up inside.
But you guys don’t want to know about that… let’s see. Things I’ve done for the past week and a half:
When I got to Dordt, I was supposed to live in East Campus. East Campus = Dordt’s Ghetto:
But then because of some complicated reasons, we got to move into Southview. Southview’s apartments = more room than five girls could ever need. But… we aren’t complaining
I’ve started classes, and I can already tell this semester is going to do me in. You are all invited to my funeral.
So I though I was safe taking 16 credits. NOPE. I’ve been doing homework constantly and I still stay awake until 2 am and wake up at 8 to do more homework. And I’m still behind. Ahhh… tis the life of college.
(Though it may sound as though I am complaining, I secretly LOVE it. I guess I’m kind of a masochist in that way.)
I even skipped Dordt’s very fist FOOTBALL GAME to do homework. Laura and I were the only people in the Library beside the workstudy.
We took pictures to mark the event:
Yes, we know we match. No, we didn’t plan it. Here’s a more attractive version.
Anyways. I guess it’s kind of a tradition to post my schedule so I can try and impress everybody with how busy I am. So here you go:
By the way:
RUN = Working Out
Art 370 = Senior Seminar in Art
Art 302 = Drawing 2
Art 218 = Ceramics 1
Gen 300 = Class I get paid to attend
ASTR 121 = Solar System Astronomy
Art 375 = Painting III
So yeah, now you folks at home know pretty much my entire life. Just be ready for me to post a lot of artwork. Seriously.
I’m running out of interesting things…
Except that I DYED MY HAIR…
RED!
I decided that I had the most fun when I had red-tinted hair last semester, so I decided to see if I could fully handed being a red-head.
Here are some pictures:
Most of you have probably already seen this picture.
Here’s more:
Yup… it’s red. The best part about being red headed?
How the green in my eyes all the sudden looks 20 times greener.
Ok enough about the hair.
More about my MAC. I got a little obsessive with taking pictures with this thing.
Here’s a little showing of examples:
During Astronomy Class (don’t worry, we were on a break)
Jerry and I:
Amanda and I:
and just because there can’t be enough pictures of me and Laura together (she’s making fun of how I stick my tongue in between my teeth when I smile for a picture)
Ok that’s enough picture of me for a lifetime.
Woops, I just realized I posted 9 pictures of myself. How conceited of me.
Anyways, I can pretty much garuntee another post this weekend because I’m gonna take pictures of my room after it gets cleaned this weekend (when I find the time. *sigh*)
Also I’ll take pictures of the art I’ve been working on the past week or two. So be excited.
I love you mom… my #1 blog fan, that’s for sure.
And for everybody else out there who reads this, you are probably awesome. So have a good weekend, ok?
The Deeds.
