Diane’s World

…many enter, few come out the same

“Lord, can you hear me now?”

Damien Rice’s “Cold Water” - video of the day. I always loved this song… but this live performance gives me chills. However there is a weird chanting at the end I don’t feel comfortable with. Huh. That’s not in the CD version.

Anyways: I haven’t posted for a while, and mom has demanded for an update. Here’s what I got:

1) Work. That’s life right now. I do both the art museum and Target and it’s a lot of time.

At the art museum I’ve been teaching Linocut lessons with the resident artist. It’s a laid-back thing and I’m enjoying it. Here is some examples of linocuts I have done while doing my internship at the Museum of Glass (shown from the first I’ve made to the latest):

Sorry I these aren’t that great of quality pics… I was hurrying.

A linocut is basically a rubber stamp of sorts (which is why the lettering is in mirror-writing)

You start out with a block about this big:

and using sharp carving knives, you carve it so that when you roll ink over it the non-carved areas become your picture. It’s a lot of fun, and a very cheap form of art for your typical starving artist.

2) Last week my grandma, Leona Feucht, passed away. She was my last living grandparent, and the one that my siblings and I had been the closest with. The memories we have with Grandma Feucht are numerous, and ever single one makes us break out with laughter. She was the funniest, most energetic, most entertaining grandma that any grandchild could ask for.  More than that, she was fearless about her faith - we can’t wait to see her in heaven!

So Wednesday we drove down for the funeral. Here are a few shots of that:

I love my mee-mee!

Perhaps my favorite thing about funerals is all the family you get to see!

Here are some pretty attractive people for you! My cousin Dave, his wife Trina and me - Talk about some neat-o relatives!

And we had an after-party at my Aunt Gloria’s house. Here me and a variety of my aunts/uncles/dad/brother/other various family members:

3) While we were in Portland, my dad surprised me with possibly the best early birthday gift I could think of.

Sophie, welcome to the family!:

(Dave and Trina I hope you don’t mind I’m also using the name Sophie even though your bug is also Sophie)

Unfortunately this means that I’m gonna have to give good old’ Fritz back to the parents. Fritz, I will miss you.

4) Things left to look forward to this summer!:

My 21st Birthday on July 24th!

My roommate coming to visit me on July 25th!

My dad and I plan to go backpacking on my last weekend!

I fly out to Wisconsin on August 22nd!

DORDT starts up again on August 28th?!

And I love both of my jobs. This summer - on a scale of 1-10 is hitting 8 or 9.

I hope all of you are doing just as well, if not better.

D-Marie!

I love the picture of us. :) and love that your computer is sophie. our car is sofie so we won’t mix them up. :) we almost named our living room duck fritz but then decided on fitzwilliam. :) I am making him a black (or maybe red) and white striped scarf someday soon. your linocut’s are amazing.

Mmmm… we got to see Damien open for Fiona Apple last summer in Bend. We didn’t have a car at the time, so we hooked up with our neighbor Tiffany and rented a car and all went out there. We got tickets for like $2/per :) It was a fantastic show all around, both of them were amazing.

    Those linocuts are great - I especially like img_55 img_61 and img_63.

Oh man, a MacBook… I’m jealous :) Though I have a G4 PowerBook that does what I need it to do, so I will be content :)

Well, our bug’s name is spelled Sofie, so it’s not exactly the same :) Our laptops are named Sylvia and Mathilde (Trina’s and Mine), and our new record player cabinet is named Isobel Lucille (it was going to be Isobel Anne, but yesterday we decided on Lucille because it’s grandma’s middle name, and it’s pretty), and of course each of the little felted animals Trina makes ( http://doormouse.etsy.com ) get their own names :) It’s starting to become difficult to find good, unique names for everything :)

Don’t forget to add to your list of things to do before August 22nd - “Train ride to Portland for a weekend of excitement and adventure.” Heh.

I don’t mean this in a bad way what at all.. but I don’t think I’ve ever seen pictures from a funeral before.
I send my sympathies to your family.
