Diane’s World

…many enter, few come out the same

“We’ll cut our bodies free from the tethers of this scene…”

Well it’s been a week: Suppose I should update.

Thank You to my brother-in-law Andrew who helped me change the look of dianefeucht.com . My mom kept on complaining that the old look was too boring and dark to belong to me. I like this theme - and I especially enjoy the happy little frog in the upper right corner. :)

The song of the week is “Brand New Colony” by The Postal Service. It cheers me up when I’m grumpy. Greaaaaaat song. Strikingly fitting for my current situation.

See #4 for my reason I chose this song.

Anyways there have been a few picture worthy moments:

1) My dad took me, my mom and my brother to the opera La Boheme by Puccini. So we got all pretty and went. Here is us looking pretty:

2) My mom and I are now at war.

SNOOD WAR!!!

I’m going to win… I know it. Don’t believe me? These are the charts after one day of war:

picture-12.jpg

(dumbhead is me by the way. That’s what happens when you let mom type in your name for you ;) )

3) Because I haven’t started work yet, I spend a lot of time working out. Now my leg muscles are in a constant state of fatigue… walking up a flight of stairs in interesting.

Thank goodness for

But… I’M UP TO 3 MILES (with no breaks)! A very wimpy 3 miles… but I’m halfway to my 6 mile goal!

4) My good friend from High School (and before that as well) is getting married. Went to the wedding shower tonight:

picture-3.jpg

(That is Ali, Hilary and me…. Hilary is the one getting married)

Hmm…. yeah. A lot changes while you are in college, especially when you travel to places like New York City and Germany during your summers. I don’t feel many connections to Washington anymore….I honestly don’t have much desire to be here anymore. I want to be in the Midwest again :( :( :(
Hilary is one of the very few that I still connect with and she’s getting married… definitely a bittersweet thing :) I will more than likely cry at her wedding… that’s a given. :-/

4) Lack of connections in Washington is sure making this decision more plausible:

head_germany.gif

Ich komme, Deutschland, ich komme.

Ok I admit it, I’m scared. Excited, but scared.

5) I absolutely hate the sore achy feeling of missing someone.

And it’s even worse when it’s amplified by a boredom that all you can think about is the people you miss.

Is it August yet?

:( :( :(

“When all you see is where else you could be…”

I just saw some old man riding a lawnmower down the street a few times… shortly being followed by another old guy skipping like a little girl down the street carrying a weed wacker.

No doubt about it, I’m in Washington. *sigh*.

The lyrics this week are very fitting to my situation… just listen to the song. It’s a good one called “You’re Heart is An Empty Room” by Death Cab For Cutie. If you don’t know who they are, shame on you.

And I’m too lazy to find my camera cord, so you’ll have to be entertained with some Google images. :)

Well… let’s start with the good stuff:

I got a job at Target. Hooray! Very flexible hours + Better pay than Dordt’s work study = happy Diane. Unfortunately, I don’t start work until next Tuesday. Boo.

I have this strange ability to walk into a place, ask for a job, and receive it immediately. This is the second time this has occurred. Odd.

I was even extremely adamant about not working on Sunday. I do believe my direct quote was “I don’t cheat, lie, steal, do drugs, commit adultery or work on Sunday”.

And they still hired me.

haha.

I’m still waiting to hear from my second job at the Glass Museum:

There were some staffing changes that is making life a little difficult.. but hopefully the new person in charge of me recognizes that the person before him already agreed to hire me. We’ll see. (grr)

I’ve been working out a lot. Mom got me a YMCA membership and we go together every morning:

I am working on my long-distance running again. It is a new goal of mine to be able to run 6 miles easily by the end of summer. (I currently can do 2 miles with no breaks… yes I have a ways to go.)
My mom also is getting me to do some gardening:

Creating flower pot arrangements and weed extermination are now two of my specialties.

And as always, I have the cutest nephews.

(HAHA! I stole these pictures from Rachel’s websites. Sorry if you read her site… but I’m sure Sammy and Patrick pictures never get old, eh?)

Yup.

Not much else going on… it’s weird being back and not having a load of homework to do, meetings to go to, and friends to hang out with. I do miss Dordt… I love having a gagillion activities to choose from.

And I desperately miss the art room and painting:

I really need to go buy some art supplies and get working on that again. It’s weird when something is part of your every day life for four months, and all the sudden you aren’t able to do it anymore.

Graduating this December is going to be a hard thing for me to do because of that.
Oh… and once I start my job at Target, I plan to buy a cell phone. I’m tired of being disconnected from the world. Stay tuned for the next week or so for this momentous occasion. Yeah, I know… I’m growing up so quickly.

All in all: I still miss being at Dordt. I think this is the first semester in which I wasn’t racing to come back home. Don’t get me wrong, home is nice - I love my parents and family, but I left my friends and artwork in Iowa. I kind of want them back.
Well I have a date with the weeds… er… meaning I have to pull them (don’t worry, I had to take a drug test yesterday and I passed :) ).

Have a wonderful weekend!

“Too in love to let it go…”

Good old Coldplay. He always has the perfect lyric when I am sad. That is why “Fix You” is the song of the week (CLICK HERE TO HEAR IT!)

Also, CLICK HERE FOR THE LYRICS… since that is why I chose the song in the first place.

Well.

It’s the end of the year.

Like the end of every year, I have a terrible heartache.
I will miss these people like crazy:

However, I do look forward to being reconnected with these wonderful people:

I am very torn.

Sigh… one very long summer is ahead of me. Wish me luck.

I want cheesecake.

“we lifted our hands and prayed over your body…but nothing ever happens”

I’m conviced that I’m going to get my mom to like Sufjan Stevens.

Hence, in honor of the absolute glorious display of Sufjan Stevens in Gen300 class today, I am making Casimir Pulaski Day the SONG OF THE WEEK! (CLICK HERE TO HEAR IT!)

Anyways, it’s very late so I’m gonna make this a quick post… or a “Summary” as my dad says. :)

First of all, for my last sculpture I decided to do more public art. Staying with the theme of hands, I decided to stick random hands around campus. Perhaps you have seen them?:

Picture 1.png

Picture 2.png

and the third one WAS STOLEN!?! Actually I think it’s kind of funny… but I no longer have my beloved squirt gun anymore… :(

Picture 3.png

And also in the sculpture world, I made the two worst sculptures in the existence of human kind!:
Picture 4.png

Uhh… I don’t feel like explaining this one… but there’s not much to explain. This was supposed to be an easy assignment.

Picture 5.png

And… there is an explanation for this one… but unfortunately this post would go on for a few hours if I tried to explain it. Yeah… this piece caused a lot of heartache, a lot of grumpiness, and a LOT of fustration.

Let’s just say that it was sticking up a different finger earlier in the process… :)

We had a future roommate coffee get together today. Here are my roommates for next year!:

Picture 6.png

and….

hmm…

I don’t know if there is anything else to say.

Except I did make my to-do list for the summer!

1) Work hard at the Museum of Glass
2) Brush up on my German
3) Paint at least 4 quality paintings
4) Create a website for the Dordt Pro-Life club
5) Find a paying job ;)
6) Go Backpacking with my dad and brother a few times
7) Assure that I am both of my nephew’s favorite Aunt
8) Research graduate schools - and visit UW and Portland State
9) Relax. Turn 21. Get sunburnt. Ya’know… the usual summer things to do.

Yup. So I won’t be too lazy.

And I heard word that Cow - my beloved fish back at home - is STILL ALIVE! I think we might need a first birthday party for him… or her. I forgot what it is.

Picture 7.png

Well… I’m done with classes, and I have only one final left on my homework to-do list. This will be a very easy finals week for me.

BUT I GET TO SEE MY FAMILY IN A WEEK! :) YAY to that!

Well it’s late… I can hear birds chirping already. I should sleep - good thing I have no classes tomorrow.

Love y’all:

Deedles
