“my thoughts were so loud I couldn’t hear my mouth”

CLICK FOR SONG OF THE WEEK! (MODEST MOUSE - THE WORLD AT LARGE)
Believe me… it took a lot of inner struggle for me not to post another MUSE song. I don’t think I’ve listened to anything else for the past week.

Picture 61.png

(That is Matthew Bellamy for those who don’t know… This man is a genius.)

I’m pretty sure that I’d do almost anything to see Muse live.

Speaking of which… on Last.fm - a program that takes note of what bands you listen to and how often - has declared ***ME*** the top Muse Listener of the week!

Picture 52.png

(Deedles253 is me!) This means I’ve listened to more Muse in the past week than anyone else that has this program. I am mighty proud.

Urg… ok before Matt gets a restraint order on me…

I made a new series of paintings! These aren’t quite done yet, but here is a picture to get the main idea:

Picture 19.png

The only one I’m feeling finished with is the blue. Here is it up closer:

Picture 2.png

Once again, you should be looking at 1) the richness of the canvas (the many ways the paint is applied) and 2) the push and pull of the colors. What would this look like if it were a 3D space?

Hmmm… this weekend was interesting.

This was probably the most interesting moment:

Picture 3.png

Yes, that is Eric in my bathtub, with my roommate’s bike. He was trying to pull off some stunt where he would pop a wheelie into the bathtub, but ended up flying over the handlebars instead. It was more than entertaining.

Today we got to do some grilling - YAY FOR STEAK!

I’ve never felt so full of iron before. My tongue is a healthy pink again! No iron deficiency on this woman!

I’ve finally decided on how my last semester of college will look like. Here is the line up:
*->Drawing 2 (ick… I hate drawing. Unfortunately, drawing is the basis for all other types of art. Grrr…)

**->Ceramics 1 (yay! Messy messy clay!)

***->Senior Seminar in Art (We get free coffee every day… so I’m game for it)

****->Solar System Astronomy (For fun! I get to look at stars for my homework!)

*****->Painting 3 (I’m in this class by myself… all alone. It’s not even listed as a class yet. Soo soo sad :( )

******->Portfolio Development (A one credit course where I will work on making the world’s most beautiful portfolio, start making this website more professional, and start the jump to becoming a more professional artist)

Yes I know… it’s amazing. So much artwork… and only 16 credits - the least amount of credits I’ve ever had.

I’m glad it’s almost MAY! April was no fun:
Picture 42.png

Ok, I hope that was enough of a summary for my parents ;)

I’ll be making art - sculptures, paintings and graphics - like a CRAZY WOMAN in the next 5 days. Be prepared for GRUMPY PSYCHO DIANE!

:) Have a great week, all!

“I’m busy mending broken pieces of the life I had before”

Over PLIA I realized that I didn’t own every single MUSE song ever created. So, naturally, I did some digging and got some new MUSE. And I am very very excited about one of my finds:

MUSE GOT HEART!

Picture 1.pngPicture 51.png

Yes indeed - I think Matt Bellamy’s little Italian romance has finally sunken into his music.

And no, I’m not talking about the songs “Falling Away With You” or even “Invincible” - both of those songs still show a lot of Muse’s harder rock.

I found this song (the song of the week!): UNINTENDED.  Not once does the music show MUSE’s regular style of anger, fustration or even his the-end-of-the-world-is-near urgency. Dear Matt must be helplessly whipped to crank out this song… haha! I’m not complaining, it’s a good song - not the best Muse has done, but good.

Anyways I had a good weekend.

First the fun stuff: Amanda, Jason, Stephen and I hung out watching what was supposed to be a scary movie. It ended up to be a corny and rather humorous movie instead, but it was good fun having something fun happen this weekend.

Here is Amanda and Jason preparing to be slightly disappointed by our cheesy movie:

Picture 81.png

Uh… shoot. Is that the only fun thing I did this weekend? Oh yeah - I did have a date with Laura. We went and got DQ blizzards because we have both been craving them for a few weeks now. It was wonderful:

Besides that, I’ve been major gung-ho on my artwork.

My plaster “GRIP” piece is on the edge of finished (it’s currently on display in the art department art gallery)

Picture 91.pngPicture 10.png

and my “Gravity and Grace” assigment finally got it’s second firing, and it looks wonderful (This one is also on display in the art department art gallery… go check it out!):

Picture 111.png

I also started experimenting with Oil paints. Van Geest was a little worried about how me and oil paint would like each other, but so far only good things have come from my experiments:

first is a color study - something I’m now becoming comfortable with making:

Picture 131.png

and then a figure study - something I haven’t had much experience with, but hope to do a lot more of in the future (THIS ONE ISN’T FINISHED!):

Picture 121.png

I also have been fixing older paintings - now that I’ve improved I’ve been going back and improving my old work.

I didn’t take any pictures of the changes, but here is what my work space now looks like that I brought in all my old stuff:

Picture 141.png

Now the thing that took the bulk of my weekend:

On saturday I worked from 9:15am to around 5:45pm - no eating, bathroom breaks, or even any kind of break in there at all.

I was in the Bean (my college’s coffee shop), using yarn to create a ceiling sculpture:

Picture 41.png

My goodness was it exhausting - and these pictures don’t really capture the feel it gives the bean. I like the results though:

Picture 151.png

Hm… it’s kind of hard to see in these pictures.

Picture 16.png

And my favorite part - what I call my yarn chandelier:

Picture 17.png

Go visit the Bean and tell me what you think afterwards. I did enjoy doing this, and I love to get feedback - good and bad. I can still change some of it.

Last, but not least, my sister, Rachel, had fun glazing a mug for me. It’s now my favorite mug I own, and it makes me smile. Not only that, but it seems to hold about 2.5 cups of coffee - hooray! I love it! (Thanks Rachel!)

Picture 18.png

Ok I think that covers all the important stuff. I’ll post again in a week! Have a wonderful week, everybody!

(Don’t forget that comments on Dianefeucht.com are enabled again - especially you, mom. click on the title of this post, then it will let you comment on it. :) )

“Oh God of progress - have you degraded or forgot us?”

***GOOD NEWS! COMMENTS ARE BACK!!!*****

Yup, I fixed it! I’m sooo proud of myself.

Anyways, what you want to do is click on the title of the post and fill out the comment box!!! I expect getting millions of comments now… (yeah right).

I hope you all like the new site…

This is for you mom: I want to you to give Sufjan Stevens another try. This song - called “Come on, Feel the Illinoise” - is less airy, yet it’s still beautiful :) And Sufjan does have some very good Christian themes in his music - you can see the lyrics here.

Yes, I have a new website theme… It’s a bit cleaner but also more allusive. The “pull” tab in the top right corner is actually a button… so press it.

Also, there is no longer the ability to write comments on DianeFeucht.com, which I figure is ok because the only people who comment is Sarah and Mom who both talk to me on an almost daily basis anyways. If you still want to talk to me, feel free to use the contact form in the top menu (which you can see when you pull the pull tab ;) or email me at dnfcht@dordt.edu)

I’m starting the change of making this website more professional looking. The portfolio will be the next thing to change. :)

Anyways, I have pictures! Woopie!

First are two lovely pictures taken during Art History class:

Picture 11.png

This is Mallory and Dave “therapizing” me. I still have no idea what that means.

Picture 12.png

Mallory took this picture of Dave in middle of class. Did I mention she forgot to turn off the flash? The whole class kind of stopped… and Professor VanWyk looked a little confused.

Ok enough people, here is some artwork:

Remember this painting?

Picture 4.png

Remember when it turned into this painting?

Picture 5.png

Guess what? It changed again! To this painting:

Picture 6.png

The project is to make a seven-layer painting, and I think I’m done. I really like it. When you look at it, think about it kind of as a playground for your eyes.

I have called it “sun showers” - a tribute to Washington weather.

Next is sculpture:

I don’t remember if you remember the last time I showed this sculpture, but now it currently looks like this:

Picture 8.png

Picture 9.png

I’m ready to tell you all what it means!

If you remember, I am doing a series on hands right now. The assignment for this project was minimalism - so I decided to do a study on what a hand can contain.

Therefore, I squeezed a piece of clay, the figited with it to make the design 360 degrees aesthetically appealing, then I used that as a model to make the big sculpture!

So this sculpture’s name is “Grip”. I hope you all like it.

Finally, on Thursday last week, I was having a bad day. My eye was in pain, my iron levels were low, and I wasn’t in the best of moods. So I do what every normal art major does when they are grumpy, and I headed off to the art room.

I was listening to Sufjan Stevens at the time, and the lyrics from the song “Oh God, Where Are You Now?” really seemed to resonate with me:

“Oh God, hold me now
Oh Lord, hold me now
There’s no other man who could raise the dead
So do what you can to anoint my head

Oh God, where are you now?
Oh Lord, say somehow
‘The devil is hard on my face again
The world is a hundred to one again.’

Would the righteous still remain?
Would my body stay the same?

Oh God, hold me now
Oh God, touch me now
There’s no other man who could save the dead
There’s no other God to place our head”

I do love Sufjan Stevens.

Anyways, long story short… six hours later and I looked up and I had this on my canvas (this is a relatively big painting by the way):

Picture 7.png

I’m a little scared of showing this one to my art prof… I don’t know if I’ll turn it in as an actual assignment.

Anyways, I have a heck of a weekend coming up! We’ll see if I post again relatively soon. Mom I’ll call you either tonight or tomorrow night! I love you!
Have a good weekend everybody!

“Oh God, Where Are You Now?”

SONG OF THE WEEK: Sufjan Steven’s “Oh God, Where are you now?”

What happened last week and this week:

I did a lot of artwork. (duh.) Including painting an entire new painting in one long 6-7 hour sitting. Pictures of it later.

I played many rounds of UNO with Amanda, Jason, and sometimes Stephen. I won a lot, and then lost miserably.

I created a drink at the Humble Bean. (It’s called “a party in your mouth”. I told the owner about it… so maybe if you go order a “party in your mouth”, they might understand you. I’m not responsible for any other responses you may get… ☺ )

I went on a date with my roommate. Yes, I cheated on my “husband”. He doesn’t seem to mind though.

I somehow managed to get a corneal ulcer – meaning a big blister on my eyeball. It hurt, and now I have to wear glasses until next Thursday. I’m grumpy about that.

I found out where I’m living next semester. It’s all good… I’m gonna decorate the heck out of that apartment.

I started a club… and I’m still working on it, but join the Dordt Defenders for Life if you have nothing else to do.

I got a package from my mom and oldest sister. ☺ I have the best family in existence.

I wrote this post… and didn’t put in any pictures. And didn’t talk very much. And managed to be dreadfully boring. And I put in a 10 minute song by Sufjan Stevens which I think is absolutely beautiful. I used the lyrics in my most recent painting… which you’ll see pictures of… LATER.

This post is to keep you happy, Mom. ☺ I’ll do a better one next week.

IN THE MEANTIME: HAVE AN AMAZING WEEK, Y’ALL
