“The rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum”

Hello world.

First (before fun stuff), I have two questions I’ve been thinking about:

First of all: I was thinking today – If you apologize to someone and don’t mean it, but apologize just to make peace, isn’t that deceptive/wrong? I don’t know if it’s a good thing when parents force their kids to say “I’m Sorry” when they really aren’t. Does being a peacemaker necessarily mean just being the first to say “I’m Sorry”? How are we to be “peacemakers”? Anyone? Parents? Ideas? Help?

Second of all: When talking to Jason today I think I found out why I’ve been trying to be a loner recently: I’m afraid of making relationships that will make graduating a semester early difficult. I hate short term relationships, and I think that if I made any closer friends right now they would be somewhat superficial because of the time constraint. I’m afraid of making friends that would hurt to depart from in only a year. Is this wrong?

Anyways. I think it’s a :) :( day today.

:) To my friend Jason giving me an unexpected phone call and reliving New York memories together. It’s amazing how close he, Amy and I became in only three weeks. I really miss our time together.

:) to my Junior Review today. My art profs are very encouraging, and they selected the work that will appear in my junior show. I don’t want to say what will be in it (element of surprise, right?) but I will have 5 works of art in the show: 1 painting, 2 prints, 2 photography assignments. Our class has the reception on January 26 – be sure to be there to support the junior art majors. We have a very talented yet very small group.
:( To getting my first serious RA issue this year. I need prayer for wisdom. A lot of it.
:) to my self-portrait I started last week. Pictures soon to come!

:) For getting free Humble Bean coffee twice today.

:) for that 70′s show marathons.

:)   to thanksgiving break being so close… and that i’m looking forward to the solitude and time to do artwork

:) to being asked by professor Van Geest to be the Art History tutor! I’m honored that she chose me. Maybe I can rack up some extra money (hooray for money!). I already have 5 people to tutor.

:( to a lack of self-confidence lately. A very high lack.

:) To my RD, Val. She’s surprisingly honest, and I love it. I’m not used to people who just speak their mind – it’s very refreshing. I’m sick of trying to guess what people are thinking. I give up.

:) To the high concentration of home-made food in my apartment lately (I sorely miss your cooking, mom)… and finding more things in common with my roommates than I thought.

:) To having a small influence on people. I’ve gotten 3 people to start listening to MUSE, and 2 people addicted to Explodingdog.com.

MUSE is amazing. Just a shameless plug. They are the first popular band in which I see a true angst and depth of trying to find a meaning for the world. They seem to really be searching for answers – I pray that they find them.

Wow this post is already longer than I had anticipated. I hope you all are having good weeks. I’m doing fine.

“Where’s my world today?”

Wow. Talk about some rather unexpected craziness. All the sudden I have 2 gagillion things to do.

Here’s my hand and all the appointments I’ve scheduled in a time period of 4 hours! serves me right for forgetting to bring my planner to class:

Picture 63.png

Yup.

And talk about a crazy week:

Wednesday:
10am: Huge manifesto due
11am: meeting
12pm: Huge Advertising presentation
5pm: Art History meeting
5:30pm: Justice Matters world hunger awareness letter writing
8pm: RA Meeting
10pm: Praise and Worship

Thursday:
8am: huge website due
1:35pm: huge painting due
3:30pm: meeting
7:00pm: bible study

Friday:
10am: Class presentation meeting
2pm: my Junior Review
2:30pm: RA related meeting

I wasn’t expecting all of that.

I stayed up till 4:30am finishing my manifesto. I decided to take a lot of pride in it, and I have posted it as a new page to my website!

I can only think of two people that would be interested, however.

I also figured out next semester’s Schedule. It’s rather nice! I’ll be taking the following classes:

Bowling
Non-Western Art History
Sculpture I
Graphics 4 (animation)
Gen 300
Aesthetics
Painting 2

And I have a new motto for life:

It’s harder to do than it sounds.

Well I’m really hungry and I have so much to do. Hope all of your weeks are going well!

“Where do you find te love to offer he who betrays you? To offer to wash my feet as I offer to disobey you?”

In Art History class, I found a new favorite hero.

Picture 312.png
Andy Warhol.

And it’s not because of his artwork. This dude is hilarious.

Unfortunately there aren’t any good clips of Andy on youtube.com, but this is a little 34 second taste of his personality:
Here is Andy Warhol making the interviewer wish she chose a different job.

He acts a lot like the way that Johnny Depp does in the movie Willy Wonka and the Cocolate Factory – he is very…er… interesting.

Sigh.

Ok let’s see… Life. I have been very content with it lately.
I finished the painting. Unfortunately, you have to see this in person in order to get the full effect of it. The flower is painted with encaustic wax.

Here is a detail closeup of the texture:

I definately will be trying to sell this one. If it doesn’t sell, my sister Rachel gets to keep it in her room. When I told her that, she immediately tried to think of ways to keep people from buying it.

For the first time in a while, I went dark-room developing. I had two rolls of film that I had shot for fun:

I had some good turn-outs.

I also went to NC/DC and the Hockey game. Hockey was good… NC/DC was ok. I was only impressed with three of the contestants.

Oh and I started doing pottery again. The ceramics room is really popular on Saturday – it was a ton of fun. I’m making a bunch of mugs that will probably end up as christmas gifts. (It’s free! Andrew -it’s even 10 cents cheaper than buying you Ramen Noodles for christmas!)

Welp. I should be doing stuff besides posting.

“Our freedom is consuming itself; what we will become is contrary to what we want. Take a Bow”

I know you have never heard this before, but I’m in love with Muse. I’d do almost anything to see them in concert. Almost. My new favorite song of theirs is “Map of the Problematique”. AH! So GOOD!

Well I have pictures of my painting in progress:

Picture 181.png

Hmm… I’m becoming more happy with it. The yellow/red part is the finished part. Tomorrow I pull out the encaustic wax (yes, rather scary) and finish the flower.

(BTW… this painting is huge… or 3′ by 4′)

Also, the yellow/red background is made mainly out of clay-like substance. When you get closer it has great texture.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but Shawn, Karyn and I now keep a scoreboard. Every time we walk away from our paintings feeling fustrated, the painting gets a point. Every time we walk away happy, we get a point.

Here is my, shawn, and karyn’s scoreboard (in that order)

Picture 20.pngPicture 191.pngPicture 212.png

Yeah… Shawn is the only one with a positive score. Boo.

My painting pants becoming more awesome:

Picture 231.png

Today I accidentally sat on my paint palette. My butt was 5 different colors. Rather entertaining, I know.

I can’t believe it’s already thursday – where is my life disappearing to?

Welp it’s off to bed for me. Have a wonderful day, y’all.

“In meinem blut werfen die Endorphine blasen”

Hooray for my 8 o’clock class being cancelled!

So I stayed up late doing something for photography:

Picture 61.png

Unfortunately there are two technical problems: if these were really negatives, then the black and white would be switched around, and the text on the plate would be backwards. Woops.

Grape nuts taste 100% better when you mix them with some granola.
