Diane’s World

…many enter, few come out the same

Archive for July, 2006

“Remember to remember me, standing still in your past; floating fast just like a hummingbird.”

Ah I figured I’d update on a few important things in life.

1. Andrew says that eating a goldfish must be like eating an orange slice. So we cracked open the can of mandarin oranges and tried out his theory. I don’t think I can ever eat an orange the same again. I mean, look at this:

mandarin oranges .:equals:. fishies

Ok be grossed out.

And he thought I was weird, because I imagine that chalk must taste something like tasteless buttermints;

buttermints .:equals:. Chalk

So, I’m more righter than Andrew.

2. COW IS STILL LIVING!!! You go Cow!!!

Cow

I love cow. Andrew tried to kill cow today by overfeeding. Mean-head. I tell you, he’s out to get me.

3. I’m all done with World Journalism Institute homework, and I couldn’t be happier! Now I get to spend more time being a slave for Sarah and Andrew… huh.

4. Germany let me down last week. What was it doing losing to the Italians??? That means the Frenchies place above Germany. Can I cry now? Deutschland, Deutschland… was hast du gemacht?

5. Only… 1 month and 1 week and 3 days till I’m back in the wonderful land of Dordt. I can do it, I can do it! I was looking at pictures from the last week of Dordt today and it made me a little homesick.

Animals

This is the wonderful accumulation of stuffed animals and other creatures that my roommate and I have obtained and named.

Davey Babye

I miss this odd boy. Very much. We get to be RA’s together next year! hooray!

Matress boys

Haha! This is a funny story. Laura and I procrastinated a little to put the beds back together at the end of the year. But we had no clue how to do it (Nathan Mulder origionally took them apart for us) so we ended up trying to call every single men’s room in West Hall including a lot of people we don’t really know.

Well everybody had already disconected their phones for the summer, so we were desperate. We got out the bod book and started calling random numbers… and finally the beautiful sound of Jeremy’s voice was on the the other line. I almost started crying.

They saved us, how sweet.

Ahh the memories.

Ohh and who could forget the day I made gooey goodness?

eric and goodness

Eric had a little more fun with the leftover pudding than anyone could imagine.

This had to be one of the most depressing days ever:

packed hall

Waaah. I hate packing up. My poor hall. :(

And of course I didn’t forget…

Laura and Me

Me and my beloved roommate… the last time we saw each other… how wonderful.

OK FINE! I admit! All of this is to say I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SAY! Only 16 days till I’m no longer a teenager.

More Patrick and home pictures when I get my camera back from the other house I stay at.

LOVE YOU ALL!

Diane

Only the curious have something to find

Howdy world.

Wow I have a lot to cover.

First of all - this website has been a success. My hit count has risen and I keep hearing from people who read my blog - all good stuff so far.
Sweet.

Oh by the way - if you are still using Internet Explorer as a web browser, this page may look funny. That’s your web brower’s fault, not mine. Get firefox already, geesh. It’s free online.

Ok now to the good stuff:

Firstly and most importantly: COW IS STILL ALIVE!!! (if you missed it last week, Cow is my fish.)

Second, I changed my last name. You can now call me Diane Fannywagon. (Don’t ask.)

Sunday was an extra good day for me. I skipped sunday school (ohh boy am I bad) and caught up with three good highschool friends that I really haven’t talked to since graduation. It’s amazing how much doesn’t change.

Then my good friend Mr. Johnson, who apparently knows David Ortiz (the guy from WJI that really liked my writing), said that he got an email from David that said I was the only student in the class that got an “A” from him, (he’s known to be very picky) and that there is no doubt that I should become a journalist.

That made me smile, but I still claim that paper I wrote was pure luck.

From request of my dear sister, Rachel, and I know Ali Gronewold would like this as well, I have taken extra care to photograph my excursions this past week. So be excited.
We’ve been having a grand time here in the Flanagan residence.

Patrick has an obsession with balls, so being the nice aunt I am, I bought him a huge one that squashes his face every time he tries to carry it.

Squashed Patrick

Andrew taught me a new hobby: glass etching. We were playing around, and he decided to write this:

Die Ann
This is a sore subject that makes more sense if you’ve read the “About Diane” page that is linked at the top right of this website.

He’s a “meangie head”.

We do lots of fun stuff here. This morning we took a walk in a park. Here’s the happy family:

Stroll in the park

Aren’t they cute?

Rachel requested more cute Patrick pictures. That is very easy to do :) Patrick and I have become quite good friends this month so far.

Cute patrick

That thing in his hand is “duck-dog”. He won’t ever go to sleep without it. It’s getting kind of nasty.

Patrick is quite a lot to handle - eating time has become extra interesting. Patrick has a new sense of independance where he likes to feed himself. The results are rather entertaining to say the least. Here’s the proof:

Messy Child

And, yes, it gets progressively worse…

Messy boy

His parents must be so proud.

Well, I’ve got lots more pictures… Hmm.

Today our big project was to start painting their kitchen. Right now it’s an ugly mustard yellow and ketchup red. We taped the entire kitchen off with masking tape, then painted on a grey primer. Tomorrow morning we paint the entire kitchen a deep red.

Needless to say, we had a very interesting time.

Sarah - due to pregnancy - couldn’t be around much with the paint fumes, so me and Andrew had to entertain ourselves. It ended up in a game of putting my music on random and seeing who could be the first to name the song.

Well, it is my computer, so naturally I did better. What was EXTREMELY sad was the three songs that Andrew was able to identify before me.

1. Pink - Get this party started

2. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

3. Madonna - I think it was “Like A Prayer”…

Anyone seriously concerned about my brother-in-law, raise your hand in the air.

Assuming that all of your hands are firmly and confidently above your heads, on we move to more pictures.

PowerDrill Preggy Woman

Powerdrill momma!

ex-kitchen

The yucky kitchen, all taped and ready to be primed.

Diane Primer

Ok, so maybe I had too much fun with the primer… but did Andrew really have to do this?:

Mean Andrew

He looks like he’s having too much fun doing that.

Well, after a long day of priming the walls, we decided that this would be the best way to wind down (Andrew won’t admit to doing this by the way…)

foot spa

And then Andrew added bubbles. More fun happened.
But then it got too bubbly, and we had to take the fun outside.

Bubble Magician

Sarah got the most bubbles. We had a lovely bubble mountain.

Well, tomorrow is the 4th of July. We plan to finish the kitchen early tomorrow morning, than go over to my parent’s house. It will be a good time.

It’s weird to think that a year ago I was with Rachel in Germany, having 4th of July barbeques then going to the most popular bar in Goettingen with friends from over 7 different countries, singing the national anthem as loud as we can with around 10 other Americans.

4th in Germany

Sigh… very good times. We miss you Rachel. You should hear the things Andrew says about you.

Hm.

Well.

I really sorely miss some Dordt friends about now. Actually, 5 to be exact. I would escape back to Dordt right now, but the fact that everybody I miss isn’t in Iowa but rather anywhere from Minnesota to Russia definitey doesn’t help the situation.
Next to awkwardness and having the flu, the sore achy feeling of missing somebody is the worst feeling in the world. Less than 2 months left till I go back…

It’s not that I don’t love the people here. I guess it’s just that I always want what I don’t have at the moment…

Friday all my papers are due. 1,000 words left to write. 4 articles to copy-edit.
This post gave me enough exitement for a while.

Me sleepy. Goodnight everybody! Have a good 4th of July!

~Diane~
